01When something is sent
Only when you press Enter or click Send. Browsing, opening the side panel or highlighting text sends nothing to our server.
While you are signed in and the panel is open, the extension checks on your device whether text is selected, so the Highlight button can be enabled. This check does not send page content anywhere.
02What is sent
Your message, any selected text, screenshots or images you added to the draft, and the relevant earlier messages of the current conversation, so the answer can follow your thread. You can also send an image or a selection without typing a question.
Requests are tied to your account, so that credits and usage limits can be counted.
03Where it goes
- The extension sends the content to the Explain Snap server, hosted in France.
- Our server forwards it to an AI service that generates the answer.
- The answer comes back to the side panel.
04Which AI services
The AI service used to answer can change over time, and we may also run models ourselves. Whichever is used, the commitments of this page and of the Privacy Policy apply.
For the current list of providers, see the “Service providers” section of the Privacy Policy or write to contact@explainsnap.com.
05What Explain Snap keeps
- Kept: your account details, your credit balances and technical information about each AI request (date and time, request type, model, status, credit source used and token counts). They let us count credits, apply limits and prevent abuse.
- Not stored on our servers: your questions, selected text, screenshots, attached images and the AI answers.
Your chat history is saved in your own browser, linked to your account. You can turn it off or clear it in the extension settings, and removing the extension deletes it.
06What we do not do
- We do not sell your data.
- We do not use it for advertising, including personalized advertising.
- No human reads your content, unless you send it to us yourself for support or the law requires it.
- Content is processed to produce the answer, not to train models through the API.
07Good habits
- Do not send passwords, payment card numbers or other people’s private information.
- For legal, medical or financial texts, check the original: AI answers can be incomplete or wrong.
- Explain Snap is a learning tool, not a way to answer exams or graded tests (see the Terms of Service).
08Questions and your rights
You can access, correct or delete your data and object to its use: the Privacy Policy explains how. For anything else, use the contact page.
